Mothering is good for babies and small children, but when it comes to mothering older children, spouses, and friends, it’s not very attractive.
As I was getting ready for a wedding, I realized that I was mothering my husband in what he was wearing, and how his shirt needed to be ironed, and he needed to wear socks. Yuck! I realized that I was mothering, not very sexy. I apologized and encouraged him to make his own decision.
Being a work in progress, I patted myself on the back for the awareness of my controlling behavior.
To further anchor in the lesson, at the wedding I witnesses another woman “mothering” her man. Not sexy, at all.
I am learning that instead of trying to control other people, I can best serve the world by controlling or managing my thoughts, words and actions. Sometimes my best response is to keep my mouth shut.
I pray that today, we keep our mothering and controlling to ourselves, that we love one another unconditionally period.
blessings & love,
