IMG_3537Pumpkins come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. I had no idea there were so many kinds of pumpkins. What a great sight, seeing them all lined up, snuggled against one another.

Wouldn’t it be great to look upon our differences, in culture, size, shape, color, and beliefs the way we look upon these variations of pumpkins; with appreciation and ‘ah’ for both the similarities and differences? How boring life would be if everyone walked around looking the same and thinking the same. What would we have to share with one another?

When I was in a small city, in China, it was like walking around in another world. I didn’t speak Chinese and most of the people I encountered didn’t speak English; yet I would smile and they would smile back. I noticed the similarity in family holding hands, in children laughing and playing games. I saw business owners making efforts to create their unique niche. I would say HELLO and some were excited to say HELLO back, because they knew this English word connected us.

I really appreciated some of the differences that I saw in China. Nobody was in a hurry. Lunch or dinner could last for a couple of hours or so, there seemed to be nothing more important than connecting with each other. Everyone that I was able to verbally communicate with, really wanted to create a better life for themselves and at the same time honor the value of family. In Chinese custom, the grandmother (Nai Nai) takes care of the grandchild or children, usually no more than two. In turn the adult child takes care of the aging parents.

It is so fun to move about the planet with thoughts of curiosity, interest, appreciation and ‘ah’ of our similarities and differences; in doing so, we are creating world peace.

Today I pray step into our roles as miracle workers and peace makers.

And so it is!

blessings & love,

small
